    Russian Ammo (9X17 Kurz)

I saw a box of 9X17 Kurz for sale at a local gun shop. As far as I can tell, it is what the Europeans refer to 380 ACP. Any enlightenment would be appreciated and can it be shot out of a P380 safely?

    Thanks

As far as I can tell, it is the same as 380 ACP. It is going for 10 bucks for a box of fifty. I picked up one box in the hopes that it works, but am hesitant to use it until I get a definitive answer about compatibility -dimensions and chamber pressure. I have back ordered ammo on a couple of different web sites (no telling when it will ship out) because it is next to impossible to find any in Louisiana.

I plan on breaking in the P380 this weekend and if it is compatible, this will put me over the 200 rounds I need without having to use JHP's.

This might help. I think you are correct in your assumption.

    thanks for that link, brent.

All that I would add is most Russian stuff I've tried uses steel cases. And some even use steel jackets on the bullets. You can easily check this with a small magnet. The magnet will grab steel but not brass or copper jacketed lead.

Not sure how the P380 might like steel ammo or not. Might harm the extracter and maybe even the rifling if the bullets are steel jacketed.

    FWIW,

    OG,

Thanks for the steel warning. I will try a magnet against them. I am normally leery about FSU products, but was hoping this would work.

Kurz literally translates to "short" as in 9mm short (.380).
