    New P9. Feed issues

    Greetings,

I have a new P9 with some feeding issues. During the first 100 rounds, had several ( about 10) failures of the slide to go fully into battery. (About a quarter inch from fully chambered). A nudge with my thumb on the back of the slide pops the round fully home. Also happened a few times with the slide locked back, fresh mag inserted and slide release depressed. Would not fully chamber round on occasion. Using remington ball ammo today. I have 3 other Kahr pistol. Never Had ANY failure of any kind with them using any and all ammo. Any ideas ?

    Thanks in advance.

Kahr's tolerances are tight which is good & yours could be sensitive to specific ammo. FWIW, I've never had problems with Remington, Federal, Speer, Hornady, in any of my pistols...to name a few mfgrs...

I contacted Kahr via email. Pretty much posted the same info I detailed above. They suggest I ship it back to them for repair. They pay shipping. However, I live in the Democrat controlled socialist state of WA. Requiring an FFL to ship ALL pistols no matter what as of 2018. Even if Kahr pays for shipping, I'm out $80.00 more. To and from FFL transaction FEES. Bought it from BUDS gun shop. Not local. No one stocks Kahr in town anymore. Thanks Kahr for quality control. Cant imagine it passed test fire if they shot more than 8 round.

I can tell you my P9 does not like Remington ball ammo for sure. 1 jam almost every mag.

First hundred rounds? Well, yes, feeding issues are expected. Kahr recommends a 200 round break in in the owner's manual. Keep shooting it. After 200, or more let us know if the feeding issue goes away.

I agree, OP. Get some basic RN ammo and try another 150 or so. Clean and lube the gun first.

I have a P9 as well, and I have had it for many years. I don't remember having feed issues, but I did give it a 500 round break-in, which is recommended by other manufacturers. The Kahrs are very tight, so I recommend also to keep shooting it for now. After 500 total rounds, give it a good cleaning, make sure all of the bearing surfaces on the slide are well lubricated, and the bore seating area is very clean. If the feed ramp does not look like a mirror, you may consider giving it a good polishing with something not too abrasive, like silver polish and a soft rag. Clean it very well after with something like Hoppe's number 9 and wipe it dry. If fmj feeds well, try some JHP next. Remington 9BP is always a good start and should feed well. If that works, try your favorite JHP. If all fails, then your best option is to spend the $80 and send it back to Kahr. Good luck, you do have a great gun and hope it serves you well.

Great advice given ...... clean and lube well ..... I have never had feeding issues with any of my Kahr’s ...... try some federal just to see if the problem still occurs.... and yes Kahr will at least make it right for you if necessary !

Discovered my problem. Tried one of the other magazines that came with the pistol today. 70 rounds no problem. Disassembled the first mag I used during all my malfunctions.

Discovered, FROM THE FACTORY, THE MAGAZINE SPRING WAS INSTALLED WRONG. Long part of the mag spring was facing towards the BACK of the mag. Not towards the front of the magazine as it should. All the cleaning lube and break-in the world not have solved this issue. Basic Factory assembly Training and quality control at Kahr may prevent this going forward.
