I visited with a business called FTW Coatings ( Welcome to FTW Coatings Online ) in Wichita today. I was thinking of having my Stainless slide, stop pin and slide back end coated black.
I asked several questions:
1. Will surface scratch---NO
2. Ceramic finish and very hard
3. Tight tolerances on Kahr may cause fit problems---NO. The finish is .001 thick
4. Finish is sprayed on inside slide and outside.
5. Finish is not shiny. It's a flat satin look
6. Multiple colors
7. Artistic design can be applied. Like a Air Brush would do.
8. Karh's trigger would not be coated as the trigger pin is pressed in. Very hard to get out expecially an all steel handgun. Poly has a chance of damage enough to replace possibly.
9. Has done up to 30 karhs among others
10. If dropped would it chip since it's ceramic---not likely. Of hundreds of assault type rifles and handguns he's done he's not seen a problem.
11. $50-60 for slide and incidental parts.
