Took a new CM9 to the range today to give it a workout. Had a couple 6 rnd mags, an uPlula, and shooting gloves since I intended to just keep on going until I ran out. I started off with no gloves, just to see what it would feel like with standard pressure ammo, and it actually felt pretty good. Nothing violent going on to beat up my hand, or worse yet, my trigger finger, which is normally the victim of so many pocket size guns. Compared to my recoil reference gun, the rotating barrel, locked breach designed Boberg XR9-S, the CM9 is perhaps just a little worse, and very pleasant to shoot. It was a good start!

I've had problems with one brand of ammo (Rattlesnake 115gr FMJ) from other pistols, so grabbed 100 rounds of that as well. Let's just get busy with some discovery is what I'm thinking. I also had two boxes of PMC 115gr FMJ and one box of Federal Premium HST Tactical 124gr. I left the +p stuff at home. That's for phase two, next week, to see if the CM9 will be happy with the Underwood +P JHP or Remington GS +p. I'm already thinking it will be fine.

So how did everything go, being a brand new gun and all? Out of the 250 rounds with slow fire, double taps, triple taps and rapid fire it was nearly perfect! I had one FTF with the Federal HST. A slight pull on the slide fixed it and the rest of the session was perfect. I guess we'll call this session the 'break-in period.' The groups were a bit high and left, but I wasn't really 'target' shooting. I'll worry about that at some other time, plus this isn't a target pistol. I was able to make consistent slow fire head shots at the ranges max distance (of which I need to find out how far that is).

All in all good day and happy with the results. Well, everything except the cost of ammo! :lemo:

Yeah, it's very hard to consider the CM9 or any other little pocket guns as target guns. At least it was pleasant to shoot, unlike others I have or have had, so one's tendency to take it to the range for practice will be much greater. The Rohrbaugh R9 comes to mind as a little painful stinger! What I found to be really awesome is that the rapid fire stayed on target. And it was fast. Evidently my trigger timing vs the weight and recoil was just the right combination to stay put, 'cause I certainly wasn't taking the time to aim besides the first shot. Nice! To me, when the SHTF and bullets are not coming from just your own gun, you can forget your night sites, laser pointers, grenade launcher, flashlights, multitools, and a mounted GPS locator. Just messin', but I'm going to go ahead and approve the grenade launcher part of all that! Yeah, baby! :lemo: Anyway, you're only thought will be to send projectiles in the direction of the bad guy while trying not to get hit. But I digress, this was just a range session to test the new gun, but you know what I mean. A gun that works as both a SD gun and pleasant at the range is a pretty dang good (and rare) combination.

Other things on the testing agenda for next week... Besides the +P, I want to be sure the CM9 will shoot limp wristed. That to me would mean single handed and little support on the gun. I think it's very important, as, once again, the perfect stance and grip methods may not be available to you during a time of crisis. I don't think that's too much to ask of any SD gun. I cringe when people are having feed issues and it's blamed on their grip. Argh.

You make a lot of sense smokemup...........,in a real heat of the moment self defense situation, no one is going to have the time or presence to get into a shooting stance and grip the gun properly per say.........take careful aim and shoot..........it's gonna be grab the damn gun as quick as you can, clear leather and if necessary pull trigger pointing the gun at the scumbag ( hopefully in the middle of his chest / stomach ) and let rip ............. All the fancy stuff goes out the window..........instinct and reflexes take over.....and hope god is on your side........

My cm9 is the only pistol I have fired in 40 years, and before that it was only a 22. It has been absolutely perfect so far. I am right handed but have fired left handed and no problems. So far I have only fired Federal and Remington FMJ. I am going to try the hollow points soon just to make sure it likes them! I feel great that what is supposed to be a break-in turns out to be perfect! I am very pleased with my purchase last year!
I did fire a 380 in training for my CPL. The cm9 is not any "snappier".

I do have a 12 gauge pump but it is very difficult to conceal, especially with shorts and a T-shirt!

So I'm cleaning up the gun after the range session, getting it ready for next week. The trigger movement felt gritty, so broke it down a dang trigger bar piece looks broken. Argh! I saw where Kahr will send parts to you, so maybe I won't have to ship it to them. Anyone have experience with that?
