Ejection issue with PM40

Greetings! I recently joined the forum and am looking for some assistance. I did a search to see if this issue was covered previously, but could not find anything specifically to my issue.

I purchased a Kahr PM40 a few days ago and have not yet had a chance to take it to the range and "break it in" with the suggested 200 rounds. I did disassemble the weapon and cleaned it and re-lubricated it lightly with Otis gun oil. My issue is that I noticed that the weapon will not properly eject a bullet when unloading the weapon. I will drop the magazine, firmly grasp the slide and pull back quickly yet strongly, but the bullet will not eject out of the ejection port, but will become lodged in the weapon, locking the weapon open and requiring me to shake the weapon so that the bullet falls through the magazine well. I've tried to see if it's an issue with me, but it keeps happening and the type of ammo doesn't produce any different results (I'm using Federal Hydra-Shock 180 grain JHP and American Eagle 180 grain FMJ).

I thought this was extremely odd and am wondering if it's a quirk with the line or if I've got a weapon that I need to send back to Kahr? I have a S&W M&P 40c and I do not have the same issue. What I did notice is that after using the bullets in this gun, the casings come out scratched.

I have already emailed Kahr customer support and hope to hear from them soon. I really like the Kahr and got a great deal via police supplier for the night sight equipped version, so I do not want to sell this gun forward.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't had a kahr 40 but I know some pistols don't like to eject live rounds because they are to long and the bullet tip will hang up.

Shoot it!!
Shoot it!!
+1 You need to shoot the gun! I would refrain from contacting customer service until you get a few hundred rounds through it.

I appreciate the feedback. I just find it highly unusual that a weapon would not eject a round. I have contacted customer service and they provided me an RMA number. Thanks for your help though!
My p3at hung up with fmj, small pistols have small ejection ports.
I would still run the rounds through the gun before returning it to Kahr. My PM9 was a jam-o-matic until I ran about 300 through it (wide variety of malf's!). Has run smoother than a baby's a$$ since. It's like a switch was thrown. Was ready to off the gun.

I have yet to find a load now that won't reliably feed thru the gun. Now, if I have any clothes on, this gun is on my person as either primary or BU.

Just my $.02 worth.
Got my first KAHR, a CM40, a couple of weeks ago. The only malfunctions experienced so far were several failures to go completely to battery (causing the trigger to fail to engage the striker), traced to the need to really grip the piece with considerable strength to avoid having my hand absorb some of the slide momentum. The slide lacked about 1/16" of completely closing, and a light push on the back of the slide completed the travel to battery; and, then the trigger would pick up the striker and work normally. Factory ammo had fewer of these problems than my Dillon press handloads, which don't produce the maximum amount of slide momentum to begin with. Seemed accurate enough with good trigger control. Oh, and I had no trouble ejecting live Hornady Critical Defense ctgs, which was done with 3 different 5-shot mags.

Agreed, you need to shoot it !!
My CM 9 and CM40 have both performed flawlessly. Kahr's have very tight tolerances and tight springs , it just needs to go bang to get those rounds out.
I have a CM40 which I use as a backup gun and off-duty carry gun. I am a LEO. I also have the problem of the gun not ejecting an unused round. I have fired about 125 to 150 rounds through it. The gun needs to be able to eject and unshot round fast and reliably in the case you have a failure to fire malfunction and need to clear it to get back into the fight. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
Howdy, try some different rounds.
Welcome..........
Gosh it's nice to see Threads and Posts coming in from you new guys. I only wish they were not for problems although this it one of the primary reasons I follow forums,,,,trying to learn and help when possible. From all I've learned about Kahrs is, as several forums members said......shoot it at least as kahr recommends, 200 times then if problem persists follow up with Kahr. From all the Kahr related posts I've read, here and there, a lot of the problems go away with the gun continually cycled...I.E. broken in.
Hope it turns out ok without much effort.
Welcome to the forum Teal!:applause:
I emailed Kahr and within hours they had a RMA and Fed Ex label for me. I hope the turn around time is fast too. So far I am impressed with the customer service.
It seems to me I recently read that Jay of Kahr was back. I hope so. He had a great reputation of helping with customer problems.
Unbelievably good service by Kahr. I emailed them with my ejection issue and followed it up with a phone call. Within hours I had a RMA and FedEx next day air emailed to me. Sent the pistol to them on a Wednesday and got it back on Tuesday. And the fixed the problem. GREAT SERVICE KAHR.
That's great........I think there was a period where their customer service had slipped.......but I believe it's back to great again !!
I think bob must have set them straight :D
