Hello:

After a long search, i think i found my first hand gun, the kahr p380. I will be purchasing this gun in the restricted state of kalifornia. I will have several question that range from what ammo i should use for break-in, to, what type of lube and cleaners to use on it.

I hope to not just take from this great forum, but, also contribute as much as i can.

I am first wondering if $640 ish is a fair price for the base p380 in california. I have not found any advertised prices here so the ONE i have been quoted is the benchmark.

Anyone know if this is a good price?.

Thank you.

Welcome! I recently found this forum as well and there is alot of great info to be found here. There are lots of people here and at kahrtalk.com that will give you very fine advice. If you go to kahrtalk.com and the kahr-tech sub-forum you will find stickies on the proper prep and lubing of a Kahr firearm. They are excellent. That same info may also be here on this forum somewhere.

I initially had a number of problems with my P380 and it had to be returned to Kahr for service, but since then my gun seems to like Remington UMC and Federal Am Eagle.

The MSRP on the new P380 for Kali (with LCI) is $733, so $640 may be a touch high, but it is apparently a very recent release so that may account for a higher price.

Read the manual that comes with the gun carefully for assembly/disassembly (there are videos available on the Kahr web-site) and use only FMJ ammo for the break-in period. If you have issues after the initial break-in period, give Kahr CS a call (don't try to fix it yourself). I was treated very well by them, but some guys who tried to repair things on their own seem to have had issues with CS when they tried to return guns they had worked on themselves.

Now that my gun is working well I'm really enjoying it, as you will hopefully enjoy yours! Good luck!

I've seen a few who state "we don't ship to CA" but as far as I know, most do... I would suggest calling an FFL dealer in your area (most gun shops will receive a firearm transfer, just call them and ask them if they do, and what their transfer fee is), they should know for sure what they can and can't do.

Also, if dealing on the 'net, make sure your dealing with reputable dealers, with an established reputation. I've read some things about people having problems with some.

you could always go onto http://www.gunbroker.com/ and deal with individuals, too. I have sold guns myself there. You just have to send it through an FFL on each end. (in other words, I take it to an FFL in my town, pay them a fee, and have them ship it to an FFL in the buyer's town for them to receive) I even sold one to someone in Hawaii, once. That said, you're probably better off buying from an established dealer like Davidson's.

Hello:

Well, it appears that I will have to wait indefinitely as the california model is nowhere to be found. I have searched everywhere but have found nothing. I guess I will lurk around the forums and will chime in if I ever am able to purchase one. Thanks for all the help.

Thank you.

gonzzo, that't the price you pay for sunshine... ;) I'm enjoying a cup of coffee after an hour with the snowblower.
The Kahr is really meant to be a 'carry' gun; how tough is it to get a CCW in Kommiefornia? If you can't actually carry it, you might be better served with a larger Kahr or (urk! sorry!) a Glock, assuming that there are compliant versions of either one.
Second question; how would a California gun have to be different than standard? Mag safety? Manual safety? Carbon credits?
Good luck; hope you sort it out.

Not trying to talk you out of the wonderful P380, but if I was looking for my first gun I would be thinking full size 9mm if you have no intention of doing legal concealed carry. You have a ton of options available. http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

My first was a Ruger P85 that I purchased over 2 decades ago. It was a great starter gun.

cc is great with my kahr380 & I use MIC holster. I am buying kahr cm9 in morning. G27 is to big for my hand. I would either buy kahr cm9 or kahr 380. Get kahr quality or possible problems.
