"...within 7 yds & practice should be focused within that range with reliable ammo to develop sight picture..."

That may work for you, in general, but I had a the situation where someone broke into my external garage/shop and hauled away one of my welders. The distance between my basement door to the shop door is 50 feet, thus my requirement to hit a torso sized target at fifty feet. Yeah, I know, shooting to kill over a stolen tool won't hold up in court, but if I'm face to face with a thief, I'm not going to assume he is unarmed. If my math is correct, 7 yards is 21 feet, I don't feel the need to practice hitting a target at 21 feet. Others might have to practice hitting a target at that distance but I don't.

7 yds is consistent with my on-view & after action street experience...a general torso shot can still get you hurt. My on-duty handgun training extended out to 50 yds with expertise with a Browning Hi-Power or Colt Gold Cup but not a practical distance for civilians in most situations. The key factor in using deadly force is "being in imminent fear of your life" then being able to prove it...not so much a stolen property issue even if permissible requirements are met under a State statute...then there's the potential upcoming civil trial...

Well, it's nearly two year later and I thought I'd update. I have since added a K9 Elite '98. MK9 and CW45. I'm shopping for a K40 or MK40 which will...choke and gag...complete my collection of Kahrs. I've made some changes namely to the recoil and striker springs, replaced the polymer magazine followers with metal versions, inserted Magguts spring and followers in three mags, added Pearce grip extensions and added Hogue grip sleeves to the CW45 and PM9.

Here's a pix of my gaggle of these gems:

Wait, after you find a 40, there's many more that would be a credit to your collection.... :D

Looking good so far though!
My goal is to have metal framed carry guns in the high pressure 9mm and 40S&W loads. I'm OK with polymer framed guns in lower pressure 45ACP loads.

Re-safety: I notice several comments about the PM9's external safety. Yes, it is bass ackwards, hardly intuitive to flip up rather than down to disengage. Like one poster noted, external safety, loaded chamber indicators and 10lb trigger pulls are state requirements. So, Kahr and other manufacturers must comply to market their guns in those states. The ten-pound trigger pull can be easily changed, and the safety can simply be ignored and left unset. I'm OK with the external loaded chamber indicator. 🙄
