Rusty P380 slide

My father-in-law, a buddy of mine, and myself all bought P380s around the same time from the same store. I can't say enough good things about my P380. I love it. I just need to pick out some night sights.

Anyway, my buddy emailed me the other day and asked if my P380 had any rust on the slide. I told him no and reminded him that the P380 slide is stainless steel. Then he sent me pictures of his P380 with small pits of rust all over both sides of the slide. I was shocked. He asked me what he should do about it. I told him to contact Kahr. Is that the best option? Anyone else here witnessed rust on their P380?

Clean it off with some WD40.
I had rust on a stainless pistol once. It easily buffed off. Have your buddy contact Kahr about it and see what they suggest to get rid of the spots.
I'd ask him how is he storing it?

Could be he has it in one of those foam-lined storage cases. The soft foam in those have ruined more guns than all Democrat Lawyers combined!

I actually keep my P380 in a quick-access safe that is lined with -- you guessed it, soft foam! -- But... There's a silicone gun cloth over the foam (on top & bottom) as a liner, that is sprayed with B/C Sheath (now called "Barricade", if I remember right), and that cloth protects the gun's finish.

No offense to your shooting buddy, but I'm suspecting a gun-owner induced problem here, and not with the individual gun.

You might want to also compare how you and your FIL store yours too.

Good luck.

He carries his P380 in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster which I believe is foam lined. He probably keeps it in that holster all the time. Never thought that would be bad for it.

I keep mine in either my AHC kydex pocket holster or in my hand.

Based on my experience, I'd say you just found root cause.

i have an Uncle Mike's IWB holster for my P380. I have used that holster for over 1 1/2 years and for the most part store it that way inn my safe when i am not wearing it. I have never had a speck of rust.. occasionally i put some CLP on the slide but that is all..I think there might be some other problem than just a foam lined holster.

Howdy!!!!!!
My experience with stainless steel on boats tells me that even stainless steel will rust if neglected. But will usually clean up with some elbow grease and metal polish.
A ink eraser will take stains off really good.
