What bullets to use?

8294 Views 12 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  rick-40
I will be picking up a P380 and a PM9 for wife and me in a few days. I have been reloading 9mm with a moly coated Billy bullet and 45 caliber in a Bear Creek moly coated bullet. I have used these bullets for years with good success. I researched and get conflicting opinions on coated bullets in a polygonal barrel. I would be shooting 50-100 bullets per gun each week. I also have access to Frontier CMJ bullets which is a complete metal jacket. These sources are at the range where I shoot. I use W231 for the 9mm and will use it for the .380, too. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. This is a great forum to learn about the P380. Thanks!

Egads! No one answered you.

By now you will have worked out a load.

My range loads are Magtech 85-grain Magtech FMJ using WSPP with W231. I'd be happy with any FMJ bullet for range use, but I'd have to work up another load for it, so I stick to the Magtech bullet.

No experience here with moly coated bullets, so I can't comment there.

Hope you're enjoying your P380!
TMJ's reloaded in my 9mm and 380 shells , 1000 bullets for 74$ "to the door"... This photo shows all you need. I clean brass with lemi-shine,dawn,vinegar, & boiling water. I rinse with hot water and put brass by fan on towel. Use the lil' yellow LEE scoop in photo for win231. I have shot thousand's.

I use mostly Lee dies, I like those collet dies too. I bought some Herter's dies used from an auction site in .223 recently,I couldn't find them in stock any of the usual places. Ebay had them for a ridiculous price, I saw some go for more than $90 for Lee's. I got the Herter's for about $15, I haven't tried them yet, they might be junk. Have you ever used that brand?
It would seem that a coupl'a you all got missed by the Welcome Wagon. :cower: Sooooo, Welcome to the forum!

I shoot a lot of bare/lubed bullets and have shot a lot of Plated Cast bullets, never any Coated Cast bullets.

The trouble in Polygon Barrels seems to be with Bare Lead bullets, not with Coated/Plated. But I ain't gonna promise nuth'n.
Oops............welcome....Cap'n Texas and cutler..........,

Bought .270 Herter's dies used around 1969 and they still work great. Expect your 223 dies will as well if they were taken care of.
